H2O changes from liquid to solid at 0 degrees Celsius (32 Degrees F). That makes it easy to tell the temperature of the water without a measuring device. You will be pretty close anyway. Just look for ice.
We pushed off into the icy Spanish Fork River and listened for the rippling sound of descending water from the small rapid. It was that magic moment when the fears of winter dissipate more and more with every stroke of the paddle. It doesn't take long before the river owns your mind and the easiness of the current becomes your greatest joy; navigating and watching the top water ahead of you and sloping banks so you can avoid the shallows and let the river carry you away. We thought, "no need for worry of some shut in fever, for now winter is our friend."
