You muster all your kayak skills and equipment, however, in the end the river takes you on the journey.
Paddling into the sunset:

Orbiting around atomic explosions out in space can be challenging. Suddenly you find yourself river blind by the nuclear flash and can not read the river. You might find yourself stuck on the bottom or colliding with other kayakers.
The right conditions are a key component for a great river trip. Like a morning view with a light mist on a calm meandering river, or the perfect position to watch a river otter catch its morning prey then devour the nutrients on nearby rocks, possibly, a german brown trout with a hooked jaw displaying its spawning colors jumps in front of your kayak. You can plan it out as best you can but in the end nature displays its marvelous menagerie.
To catch it on camera you can plan in collaboration with the right conditions, still nature has to yield its generosity.
One thing you can plan on with patients and a semi-readiness is a sunset kayak trip. You can check the weather and be ready when the time is right. Plan out your timing well to catch the perfect sunset but don't get caught in the dark. Always be ready for the unexpected. You just might get caught in the dark. Did you bring a flashlight?
I was hoping for a little more snow for aesthetics however, this was a near perfect December paddle down the Spanish Fork River:
